A Daily Devotional for May 20, Wednesday

Ephesians1:15-23

verses 15 and 16: Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:

In my translation (NKJV), the passage for today’s reading is subtitled, “Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom.” I find it awkward reading these words as if I were Paul, since I myself have so far to go to improve my own spiritual wisdom. But I am also struck by Paul’s thankfulness, which I can relate to. He thanks God for all of the believers. I also am thankful for our church family. Not just for all that this family accomplishes in Jesus’ name, but for the mere presence of this family of believers. We are living reminders to one another of God’s grace and his love for His creation. I need to show love and care for these believers. It is hard to be separated from one another for so long. I am reminded of how long Paul was separated from his church family! He remembered fellow believers in prayer.

Father God, You have brought me to a family of believers in this tiny town in the corner of a large nation. Our church family is struggling during this difficult time. I am thankful for every believer, and am confident you have a plan for us. Help me to stay connected. Amen
