2 Timothy 4:2-5
Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage- with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
These verses are packed full of meaning for me. For some reason I keep thinking about Christmas. I am thinking about how every year I hope to “get that Christmas spirit.” Verse 2 of today’s passage tells me to “be prepared in season and out of season”. The Christmas spirit is Jesus- I wonder what God thinks when I search for some kind of special feeling at that time of year. I should be in the Spirit every day, in season and out of season. God is the same all year long. His promises are the same. Holidays should be times when I am reminded again of what I believe. But they are not the source of my hope and joy. God is.
Dear God, you have given us everything we need, all year long. I will try to remember to be thankful, each and every day. Amen

This reading is part of Paul’s final instructions for Timothy. Paul gives him some very specific ways in which he (Timothy) should preach. Firstly, he should be prepared to preach whether it is a good time for it, or even if it is an awkward time for it. If listeners are in error, not understanding correctly, Paul tells him to correct them ( “rebuke”). He tells Timothy to be as encouraging and uplifting as possible to his listeners. And through all , Timothy should be patient and understanding, and should always be ready to teach others about God and Jesus.

2 Timothy 4:2-5
For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.
It struck me that we are in this time in history today. It seems like the world has turned from sound doctrine and does not want to hear the Word. We are constantly bombarded by groups and individuals who want to tear down religious symbols and restrict religious traditions. As Rollie said last evening, maybe God inflicted the virus on us in order slow us down and give us time to contemplate where we are headed.
Dear Lord, help us to have the strength to stand for what we believe and to see what can be done to further your dream in this…
2 Timothy 4:2-5 Verse 5
As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an
evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
I was very sad that I was unable to be part of our first meeting “finding transformers. I have had a very difficult morning, and cried out to God to help me. I was feeling unworthy, useless and phony. Many negative opinions I had of myself I gave it all to God. Why could he possible love someone like me. I have been fighting the devil for quite some time now. I prayed for forgiveness to be more worthy of the love God gives me every single day. Every da…

2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage —with great patience and careful instruction.
‘Preaching the Word’ or ‘Telling about the Word’ itself is easier compared to ‘to be heard by heart and lived out with biblical decisions’ which is true transformation by the Word. This is why we need “great patience and careful instruction” as Paul described here in 2 Tim 4:2. I know it takes a very very long long time for me to be changed by the Word of God. NEVERTHELESS and THEREFORE, we need to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ in season and out of season so that…
2 Timothy 4: 2-5
2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage---with great patience and careful instruction.
I recently had a conversation with my son, who was experiencing a very difficult time in his life, about God’s plan. We talked about God’s plan and how important it was to believe that what was going on was ultimately good. This is what it must mean to preach. In this case the time was right, but at times we may find that preaching to others is not quite timely, but needs to be said none the less. I hope with all my heart that I will be ready to preach when needed, and not…
