A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, Nov. 18

Leviticus 23:39-43

God instructed his people to stop and rest after they brought in the crops, and to give thanks. Once a year they were to take an entire week to rejoice and give thanks for what God had done for them. God has provided so much; our very lives and every single particle of every want and need has been given freely to us by Him. He is there for us no matter what happens. Even our trials are not borne alone.

Father God, you give so freely to me, I want to give you all my thanks. My life is yours, and I will try to live it fully mindful of you, always. Amen

Becky, transforming

Leviticus.23:39-43

These were exact instructions to the Israelites for the celebration of God’s protection and guidance while they were in the desert. God wanted to sent aside special days for the people to come together for rest, refreshment and remember with thanksgiving all he had done for them. Besides the Sabbath, the Israelites enjoyed 19 days when holidays were celebrated. Each celebration was indicative of all they endured from Passover to to the feast of tabernacles. Today our families also need celebrations and thanksgiving to our lord to renew our faith and pass it along to our children. In addition to Christmas and Easter, A special day is set aside each year for thanksgiving. Every day can be…

20201118 Wednesday, Daily Devotion - Leviticus 23:42-43 (NIV)

42 Live in temporary shelters for seven days: All native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters 43 so your descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.’”

God asked the Israelites to do something special to remember the important message they need to remember. God commanded them, “Live in temporary shelters for seven days” (NIV) “For seven days, you must live outside in little shelters” (NLT), which means God considers it very important and they have something very important to remember regularly in their lives. It is the fact that it is the Lord,…

Leviticus 23: 39-43

43 “So your descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’”

I have to remember that everything in my life is temporary. This verse reinforces this thought. It is a scary thought, as I tend to get attached to people and things. I know this is a human trait. I sometimes forget that what I have is temporary and although I grow fond of people and things, I need to look to the future with God in heaven. I give thanks for my life here on earth, but I should spend more time thinking about the future. That future when…

Leviticus 23:42 - “ You shall live in booths for seven days; all that are citizens in Israel shall live in booths,”

In the Old Testament, booths refer to a temporary structure made of stakes and thatched with palm fronds. Imagine if all of next week as part of our Thanksgiving celebration we had to pitch a tent in our yard and live in it for the week. Do you think it would help us to better focus on the blessings for which we are to be thankful? How long would it be before companies would compete to provide the most luxurious, well appointed and roomy tents with seductive advertising to go along with it? Neighbors would start competing with…
