A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, July 15

Colossians 2:6-19

verse 8: See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

Yesterday when I saw the “boil water” notices for Contoocook, I was stunned. I have to admit, for a second I wondered, “Why this, now, God? Haven’t we had enough to deal with lately? Do we need one more problem to make life more tedious and difficult?” This morning when I read verse 8, I am reminded how easily I can be swayed into worldly thinking, and lose track of God’s guiding presence. God is in control, and we are asked to remember this, and to turn to Him when we need help and clarity. I must remember this always, and ask God for the peace He is so willing to give. Getting on any worldly train of complaint and unhappiness will not move me anywhere.

Holy One, I turn to you for peace and strength today. Help us all to remember you are in control. Protect us from worldly snares, Lord. Amen
