A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, Jan 17

Matthew 6:31-33

"So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

These words from Jesus reminded me this morning of a reading from last week, in James 4:8, 'Come near to God and He will come near to you.' We are to seek God always, and when we do this, He is there, coming to meet us, and providing us with an answer to our prayers. I know this answer, or this solution, may be completely other than I had in mind, but I can also be sure it is God's will.

God, you provide for me. When I seek you out, you are always there to hear my prayers. Amen

Matthew 6:31-33

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

God gave us free will so we could make our own choices. Free will does not mean we are free to do anything we want to do. Every choice we makes comes from getting out of bed in the morning, choosing what we will eat or drink, to choose what we will wear. These are ju…

Matthew 6:31–33.

From the message: what I am trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works, fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God reality, Gods initiative, and Gods provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

These verses want us to concentrate on God and all we have because of him. We are to stop worrying about God providing what we think we need and concentrate on God and the talents and gifts we have becaus…

Matthew 6:31-33

C. S. Lewis wrote a sentence in Mere Christianity that mirrors this verse beautifully. “Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in.” God does not pay our mortgage, repair our car, or buy our groceries. But God provides the gifts and talents we need to get these earthly

things done. We could try to muddle through without relying on God’s providence and conceivably make it, but we miss out on the greatest gift of all, eternal life in God’s presence.

Worrying got me absolutely no where! Once I slowed down and knew God was with me and God carried me, like the footprints in the sand “it was there that I carried you” is so true, it’s let go and let God! I can’t say that I won’t worry again at some point but I hope a can learn & listen….. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be give…
