A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, Feb. 2

Hebrews 10:11-14

Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

I like to think of myself as one of “those who are being made holy.” I hope to be one of those. Without Jesus, this could never ever happen for me. His sacrifice allows my journey to find its goal. Today I need to ask forgiveness of God for all of the sins I have committed, the ones I remember, and the ones I have forgotten. I need to repent, and then accept God’s forgiveness.

Holy One, you have given me everything, every hope and joy, and above all, forgiveness for all of my sins. I am so thankful. Amen

Hebrews 10:11-14

God wants to save us from the power of sin; this is sanctification. Sanctification is not a one-time event. It is something that takes place over the rest of a Christian’s life. Even though God forgives our sin this does not mean that we are perfect. Sin is still present, and we still sometimes listen to it and make wrong choices. God wants us to stop listening to sin, Instead he wants us to do what He tells us to do through the Bible and through His Spirit. He wants to save us from the power of sin, so that sin no longer has control over us. Sanctification is the power to say yes to God an…

Hebrews 10: 11-14

14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

When we believe in Jesus and are reborn we begin our journey of sanctification. As we grow in our faith, we are sanctified by Jesus and grow in our faith. Christ’s death on the cross started the sanctification process and our salvation was validated.

Dearest Lord, I thank you for the gift of salvation. Through Jesus’ death we are saved. Give me the grace to grow in my faith and honor you always. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Hebrews 10:11-14

Sanctification is that churchy word for the process of being made holy. As the writer of Hebrews tells us, that starts with Jesus’ sacrifice. Accepting this mystery of faith and it’s gift of salvation marks the beginning of a life-long process. With each word and action that honors God we progress along the road of grace toward complete sanctification as part of God’s heavenly host.

Prayer - Jesus, Savior and guide. Since receiving Your gift of salvation I have not always been diligent about being intentional in my movement along the path of grace from salvation to sanctification. Help me to live in such a way that reflects to others I am indeed on such a journey…
