2 Timothy 2:20-21
In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
Because we have answered the call to follow Jesus, we have the potential to be those "instruments for special purposes" and to be useful to God. Although we start out as ordinary, we change as we follow Christ's teaching; we become more and more "special" and therefore useful to God. It is hard to recognize those special purposes, I think. They may not seem like a big deal at the time, but they may ultimately have a big impact.
Holy Lord, help me to follow Jesus in all that I say and do. I hope to never miss a chance to do your will or to play a role in your good works. Amen

Sanctification

2 Timothy 2:20-22
Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
I always thought that God uses people who have impressive abilities and gifts. While spiritual gifts play a part, they are not so important when being used by God.…
2Timothy 2:20-21
Many homes today have some fine china, silver, and crystal that is only used on special occasions. Our everyday dishes are often stoneware, our utensils are stainless steel, and no crystal goblets, but simple glasses. Maybe the best of ourselves, like fine china, silver, and crystal shouldn’t be just for special occasions. Maybe the best of ourselves should be offered to God everyday. To do that, however, we need to stay close to God with prayer and reading his words.
Prayer: Gracious God, I pray I am offering the best of myself to you each day. Amen
2 Timothy 2:20-21
This passage makes clear that sanctification is a process. For some, conversion was virtually instantaneous. They can say, “On May 12, 1987 I surrendered to Jesus at a prayer service.” I cannot say anything like that as my conversion was a process. Sanctification, on the other hand, is always a journey; one that begins at our conversion. Each day we soldier on, cleansing ourselves to be instruments of God’s special purposes. I wonder what awaits me today.
Prayer - Merciful God, thank you for another day to serve You and move steps closer to being more like Jesus. Amen
