A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, November 7

Matthew 6:21

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

When I read this verse, I thought right away of our children. The family Tom and I have been blessed with is where my heart lives. It is not at all that we are perfect, or our children are perfect, or that we never have issues or concerns. But the love! I think Jesus was warning people to watch what they coveted, because it ultimately will become clear (and already is clear to God) if your heart is bound up in shallow or sinful things. There may still be some places my heart goes which are not worthy of the honor (games on phone, eating lots of junk, wasting time, etc.). There is always some cleaning up that can be done.

Holy Lord, help me to keep my heart away from things which do not honor you. My heart is yours. Amen

Matthew 6:21

I remember a children’s message on this verse. We put a large treasure chest out and asked the children what treasures it contained. The answers were what you might expect: gold and silver, lots of jewels, and maybe a treasure map! The children all agreed that whatever was in the treasure chest was important and worth a lot. When we opened the chest, they saw that it contained their bibles. Hopefully, they now understood the worth of their Bible and how important it would be in their lives.

Prayer: Gracious God, May I always treasure your words and how much they have meant to me. Amen

Matthew 6:21

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

God has always had a plan for us. If we seek him with our heart we will find him. He promises us hope and a future of eternal life with him. We are no good with out him. God commands us to change our own hearts by becoming tenderhearted .I want to obey God in doing something he is already doing in me. You and I respond by understanding where our treasures should be. When we feel a desire to read our Bibles, then we open them up and learn the glory of God within the text. When we feel the pull t…

Matthew 6:21 The treasures Jesus is referring to are not the materialistic things in life perfect example when he said to the disciples drop you nets and follow me, teaching us that what good you do in life helping a neighbor someone broken hearted offer compassion those I thing are treasures because it comes from your heart.

Dear Lord thank you for teaching me that heavenly treasures are what see by our action and help me to think of life’s treasures so you know my heart. Amen

Matthew 6:21 There is no more accurate description of prioritization than this beautiful verse. When I only gave lip service to, but did not truly treasure God, God’s Word, kinship with Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit, my heart was elsewhere, enmeshed in earthly pursuits. Eventually I came to realize, like Paul did, that all of this is utterly insignificant compared to the riches found in a meaningful relationship with the Triune God.

Prayer - Merciful God, my heart lies with You, the source of all genuine treasure in my life. Thank You for all the good gifts You have provided In my life. Amen
