2 Timothy 1:7
The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Years ago when I worked at New Hampshire Hospital, one of the nurses there used an expression I have never forgotten. She was describing someone’s choice to “marinate” in their present feelings and worries rather than considering moving out of them. This has never left me. I often think about the choices we have concerning how we are feeling. Despite my profession, I am not a master at letting things go. But I am getting better at it, with God’s help. I do have the power of the Holy Spirit to find strength and healthy progress when I am bogged down. But the overall message is the same whether I marinate or activate: The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)
Holy God, thank you for this reminder today. Help me to follow your word and lead my life according to your will. Amen

2 Timothy 1:7
In this world that we live in today there is surely no shortage of issues that can cause anxiety, worry and fear, especially with the 24/7 news and social media diatribes. The Luke reading made me think, yet again, about Panchita Castillo. She is the centenarian I spoke of in this group a while back. I read about her in an article 25 years ago.. I have retained that article and still refer to it from time to time. She lived in what we would consider abject poverty, but to her, she was satisfied with what she had and accepted her lifestyle. At one point, she had no money for food and one of the journalist gave…
Luke 12:22-31. and. 2Timothy 1:7
As I said in my post on Friday, I need to TURN OFF! the television and put away my ipad. I have a high school friend who turned off the TV news years ago and continues to feel good about it. I'm not sure I could do that. We do need to be informed, especially in today's political climate. Between the nightly news, the daily newspaper, and my tech devices, I am more than informed, I am over-informed and worried about our world. Too much information isn't making a difference and I could try to spend more time doing any number of better things. More time with God's word would be the best plac…
2 Timothy 1:7
Don’t get me started. One of the many reasons I see for the struggles of the Church in our time is the spirit of timidity. People of faith have been beaten down by the secularist demand that faith be kept a private matter and should not be brought into the public square lest someone be offended. Lost in our timidity, we forget God’s gifts of power and love. As believers, we have them both and need to use them to honor and glorify God. This is not with a spirit of arrogance or condescension. The verse also reminds us of the gift of self-discipline. I can relate to the author’s struggle with media. A steady, undisciplined diet…
