A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, January 31

Writer: ontrakkontrakk

Matthew 6:24

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

These words of Jesus speak to me in a very personal way today. I struggle so often with anxiety about things I have no control over. Sometimes it is money, sometimes other things like health or aging. I am not sure how Jesus would categorize these worries, but they are not where he would like for my thoughts and concerns to be focused. I am not being loyal to my faith when I allow other things to take my emotional energy. Jesus is sufficient and should be the first place I turn when I wake up in the morning, and the last thought I hold before dropping off to sleep. I do have only one Master, after all.

Lord, hear my prayer for peace. Lead me through my day. Amen

Matthew 6:24

It is a fine line with sometimes walk in our world today. There is so much available to us. But there is even more available to us through Jesus. I don’t think it’s wrong to want things and to love God, but we must be careful in our priorities. More times than not, we must choose and hopefully we choose God.

Prayer: gracious God, May always choose you. Amen

Money is not evil . We can do so many humanitarian needs with the right source of money. Homeless people, abused children. Abused animals, proper housing and on and on I could do. While we are here on the earth, God ‘s greatest commandment is to love and take care of those less fortunate than us. Using money for these needs is so important, but the pursuit of money for our own gain leads to all kinds of si…

When love of money takes hold of a person that love can take precedence over that persons love of God. Money can be put to good uses when used correctly, but the love of money is the root of all evil. Wealth can be used for good when God is placed first. As long as the love of money doesn’t take over our hearts, we are okay. Being loyal to God should be first in our thoughts and actions.
