verse 1: Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship.
These verses are familiar ones- especially verse 2. This morning I am moved to meditate on the first verse. Our bodies are God’s most individual and intimate gift. God gave me my being, my body and mind, and expects me to do the right thing with it. Have I truly been recognizing my physical self as God’s gift to me? I can’t be God’s servant here on earth only using my mind and not following through physically. I need to be where He wants me to be, and go where He asks me to go. Not just in meditation and prayer, but physically. I recognize everyone has a different physical body, and many have significant challenges. God also speaks to them with this passage and others. Regardless of our physical limitations, our bodies are God’s unique gift to each of us.
Holy Father, Maker of heaven and earth and giver of life to each one of us: Thank you for the gift of life, and for a physical body. Help me to remember I belong to you, and wherever you ask me to be, I need to be. Amen
