John 3:30
He must become greater; I must become less.
These are John the Baptist’s words, anticipating Jesus. I have thought a lot about what that must have been like for John. All of a sudden, he is no longer the most important one- the one people travel to meet. Yet he was able to give all of this up, and to point people to the true savior. The arrival of Jesus did not make John’s work false or unnecessary, but it put everything into a new framework.
In my life and in the work I do, I must always remember the work I do is secondary to the work of God. My very waking and breathing is at the mercy of God. I always need Him, and should always go to Him for help before counting on my own strength. My strength is God’s gift to me, not something I earned or created myself.
Holy Father, I need you, every minute and every hour. I am yours. Amen

John 3: 30 “He must become greater; I must become less.”
I think that pride is one of my biggest challenges. If I work on lessening my prideful self, I can develop a more humble nature. I then would have to work on not being proud of my humility. I need to work on that weakness I have of being in control. God knows what is best for me and I need to work on that knowledge every day. Being humble is not an easy characteristic to develop. But I will work on it.
Dearest Lord, you sent us your Son in order that we could have eternal life with you. Teach me to be humble and not prideful. Help…
John 3:30
He must become greater I must become less.
John’s willingness to become less important shows great humility. God gave him the gift of being his messenger and I guess he figures his time is up and his pleasure and joy is now complete. ( kind of like a relay race) John shows us how to graciously step aside to allow others to fulfill their roles. He must increase, I must decrease. God does not want me to be jealous of the gifts he has given others. He wants me to enjoy and be content with the gifts he has given me. As I continue my spiritual journey, my envy of other people must be a thing of t…
John 3:30
The Baptist’s words are incorporated in the prayer of humility that I and find of and review often. it is a life lesson worth learning and carrying out daily.
Prayer - Lord, teach me humility in my actions and words toward others, not as a sign of weakness, but as a way of honoring You as sovereign. Amen
