A Daily Devotion for Thursday, February 3

2 Peter 1:2-4

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

“His divine power has given us everything we need...” This ultimate truth provides the bedrock for our lives as Christians. I have loved the word “sanctification” since the first time I remember hearing it. We are all, as Christians, on the same journey to God and to holiness. We can always grow, always be better than we were yesterday. We must be open and receptive to that power.

Father God, you have placed me on this journey and I sometimes forget. But I have made steps forward. Help me to keep your holy purposes in my heart and my mind when I am faced with decisions. Amen

2 Peter 1:2–4 I once saw a sign that read “faith is a journey – not a destination.” These verses speak to some of that. As we go to church, read and study our Bible, and share it with others, our faith grows. The more our faith becomes strong, the more we want to share it by our actions and behaviors. Prayer: gracious God, this journey has always brought me grace and peace through you. For that, I thank you. Amen

Sanctification is being set apart for a special purpose or use. Receiving the Holy Spirit and being adopted by God gives me an opportunity to have a better relationship with God. It gives me the knowledge that God…

2 Peter 1:2-4

The phrase that grabs me in this passage is “you may participate in the divine nature.” God has a role for me in His plan for the world. It is tiny, totally unknown outside my sphere of influence, yet I participate in the divine nature through faith. Take the Super Bowl as an example. I will be watching the game with friends in town and thus participating in the event, but not at the same level of intensity of Joe Burrow, the quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals. And so it is with my Christian life. The journey of sanctification requires that I actively participate in the divine nature in the way God has designed for me, no…
