A Daily Devotion For Thursday, February 17

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

When I looked up this verse in my own bible today, I was surprised to see the word “love” where I expected “mercy”. I checked a couple of other translations and both words are used. Is it fair to say these two words are nearly identical in meaning? Or is it closer to say both words come near to the meaning of the original word used in Psalm 23? In any event, God’s love for me leads to his merciful treatment of me. His love for me leads to my inclusion in the sphere of Christian faith, and in the promises of Christ Jesus. I am thankful beyond words for God’s mercy.

Heavenly Father, your mercy and love are everything to me. You are, of course, my world. May I be more merciful and more loving to others, at every opportunity. Amen
