Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
This is so true! (In a figurative sense, of course.) When I feel cheerful, I feel good through and through. It does have a physical component, and it provides energy and motivation. I should remember in those times I feel cheerful, to thank God and to enjoy the moments.
Holy Lord, you have given us the ability to reason and to experience deep emotions. This is part of the gift of being human. I am thankful for being able to experience all of these emotions, but today I am especially thankful for the times I feel cheerful. Amen

Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Barbara’s words today are accurate when she describes herself. She consciously decides to be happy each morning. This makes life very pleasant for both of us. We all know of people who refuse to see anything positive in their lives and wallow in self-pity and sadness. It does crush them and ruins their lives. Decide to be happy.
Dear Lord, thank you for giving us a choice regarding how we face life. Some of us struggle with the decision. Please help us to see how much better it is to be happy.
Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
I choose to be happy. I read that recent medical studies confirm the fact taught by Solomon 3000 years ago. Those who laugh and enjoy life will live longer. A happy heart or a broken spirit is a choice. Choosing happiness over unhappiness makes life easier to cope with. If I do not forgive others, God will not forgive me. Making the Lord the joy of my life gives me a reason to be happy, regardless of the circumstances.
Dearest Lord, I am sorry for all the times I have sinned against you. I will always attempt to do what is right to please…

Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
I wanted to illustrate an example of what can happen so easily in my every day life.
My alarm went off, I threw it across the room and overslept. My husband yelled at me. The dog got out – AGAIN. It’s pouring down rain. It took an hour and a half to get to the doctor appt when it normally takes 20 minutes. I spilled coffee on my blouse on my way to the doctor. I am stressed out. Is there really a way to have a cheerful heart with all this stuff going on . I/we can grumble …
Proverbs 17:22
Just about everyone has experienced the plain truth of this proverb. I don’t know if Reader’s Digest still has this, but I remember a monthly feature called “Laughter is the Best Medicine,” which consisted of several short vignettes of humorous real life stories. The electronic equivalent today are the funny videos that we run across online. That overall good feeling that comes with a cheerful heart is a truly a gift from God.
Prayer - God of laughter, grant me a cheerful heart that it may lift not only my own spirit, but the spirit of someone who needs a bit of cheer. Let me be the dispenser of the medicine of the Great Physician. Amen
