A Daily Devotion for Monday, March 27

2 Corinthians 5:18-20

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's embassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: be reconciled to God.

The word reconciliation appears five times in these three consecutive verses. For me this again brings up images of the torn curtain, symbolizing this reconciliation. The curtain which separated God from his people (what is sin but anything which separates us from God?) has been torn and has fallen away. We can and do put up new curtains every day, but they cannot keep us from God's forgiveness.

Lord God, May my life be free of anything which separates me from you. Forgive me for my sins, and I humbly ask that you point out those sins that I may be missing, because I am sorry for anything I do which puts distance between us. Amen

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

All of us have been through times where we had a disagreement with someone. In many cases we are able to resolve our differences and continue with a normal relationship. In others, we made the best of the situation and tried to forget about it. However,…

2 Corinthians 5:18-20

Dictionary definitions of ambassador include: ”an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country,” and “a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity.” Both are apt in our role as ambassadors for Christ. If heaven is the Christian’s true home, we are Christ’s accredited representatives to promote the specified activity of reconciliation. Our charge is not complicated when put into words. It is in the execution of that charge I so often stumble. In another reading this morning I was confronted by the words of Mother Maria Skobtsova.

“No amount of thought will ever result in any greater formulation than the three words, ‘Love one another,’…
