Philippians 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
This verse, if taken to heart, could change so many things. If we were each able to think this way, and to approach others as if they deserve our very best treatment and care, what could happen? Every decision we made would be a decision for the good of others before ourselves. Of course, this isn’t possible in every situation, but I know I could do better.
Father God, help me to think of others before myself. Help me to take care of the needs of those around me before my own. I will practice this, and keep this verse in my heart. Amen

Philippians two:3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Growing up as an only child, selfishness came naturally. At home there was no competition. As my world widened with playmates and school, I came to realize just what selfishness was. Sometimes the lesson was hard, but I loved my friends and soon learned Paul‘s message that we read today. There is so much great advice for living a good and right life in our Bibles. We are blessed to have that in our lives. Prayer: gracious God, I pray more people will open and read their Bibles for direction on living as you would have us live. Amen
Philippians 2: 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
If the goal I am pursuing is from God, then it is not selfish, unless I am doing it out of pride or greed. Being conceited and looking down on others is sinful and should be confessed. Rick Warren stated, Humility on the other hand is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. As a Christian, I should never compare myself to others. I have been given my own identity molded in the image of God with the help of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ took my sins away and gave me the opportunity of eternal life. …

Philippians 2:3
I don’t think that being ambitious is selfish. This is a difficult concept to understand. some believers might get confused by this passage and others might like it. How would I count others more significant than myself. I would not impose my will on others. I would not seek to gain personal success at the expense of others. On the contrary, (coming back to ambitious ) I/we should spend time working for the good of others. This don’t mean that we should put ourselves down. If this good is from God, then it is not selfish, unless you allow selfish motives (pride, greed), to take over. Conceit is the sort of pride in ourselves tha…
Philippians 2:3
It is the discernment given us by the Holy Spirit that keeps us from letting a positive quality like ambition descend into a sin like selfish ambition. Becky and I are still basking in the glow of seeing some early fruit of our youngest son Kenny’s diligent ambition in the field performing arts. He has worked hard and can be described as ambitious, but there does not seem to be a selfish bone in his body. So too his older brother, Anthony and sister, Kay. Arrogance and selfishness are just not part of their make-ups. This is a gift from God.
Prayer - Gracious God, let me have the wisdom to distinguish ambition from selfishness. Keep the focus…
