Psalm 127:1-5
Unless the LORD builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.
Children are a heritage from the LORD,
offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court.
Proverbs 1:8
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
I would have loved hearing more of this writer’s story. Did he know Christ before he left to be on his own? Was his father a Christian? How did the writer come to be a pastor? He sounds like he sets a wonderful example for those he encounters, without adding unnecessary pressure. “Wherever God has called you is the place God wants you to serve for God’s glory.” This is important for me (and all of us) to remember. God provides the increase, and anything we can do to help someone turn toward Jesus, is enough. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”
Holy Lord, help me to know when I can help to build your kingdom. Give me the words and the wisdom, I humbly pray. Amen

Psalm 127:1-5. Do It Well
When my youngest daughter was in high school, she seemed to have some minor learning problems. We had and Education Plan put in place and had meetings about her progress. I was afraid she would feel less of her abilities as her two sisters never needed this support. I always told her (as often as possible) to do the est she could and not to worry about what others did. Just do the best you cannat that moment. She began working in a law firm after high school and just blossomed in that environment. Today she is a Billing Representative for that firm and is the one everyone turns to for help.

Like Becky, I wonder about the Upper Room writer’s full story. How many have left home at 15 and run into troubles, fall off track and stay off track? What are those statistics? Obviously, the writer built his “house” on the foundation of God. No matter the “house”, your family, marriage, career, church, really any facet of our lives, the “house” will be weak if God is not at the center of the foundation.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the foundation of every part of my life. Thank You for being the one who builds my life, cares for me and those I love and gives me peace when I trust You. Please let…

This reflection this morning was absolutely on point for all Christians, not just those in full time ministry. Our charge is to share the love of Jesus by meeting people where they are. The Holy Spirit does the heavy lifting of illumination, conviction and conversion. This is the approach I try to take at camp. Seventy percent of our youth members claim no faith tradition whatsoever. Those who do are not all Christian. We have Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist Scouts. Jesus loves them all and my job is to reflect that.
Prayer - Jesus, please walk with me as I reach out in Christian love to all, especially those whose hearts are far from You. Amen
