Ecclesiastes 7:6
Like the crackling of thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of fools. This too is meaningless.
Lately I have been having a struggle with the entire book of Ecclesiastes. But this verse makes sense to me. When people use laughter to be dismissive, or hurtful or disrespectful, nothing good can come from it. It is ultimately meaningless, and signals that the one laughing has ceased caring. This is a misuse of laughter, and in the scheme of things, really is useless.
Lord God, May I never laugh at the expense of others. Laughter is a blessing, and I need to always remember this. Amen

Ecclesiastes 7:6
For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fools; this also is vanity.
The thorns, in this scripture are being burned. The laughter of a fool is as temporary as the thorns which burn, only to die out. The fool’s laughter is soon over, and reality sets in. The most foolish thing a person could do is reject the Lord for earthly pleasure.
Lord, May the truth of Your Word reach all who are in need of a Saviour, and I pray that the lies of the enemy will be exposed so that many that are heading for an eternity of separation from you may repent an…
Ecclesiastes 7:6 Like the crackling of thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of fools. This too is meaningless.
I find this verse is telling me that some people do not know the reason for God’s gift of life. These people seek only laughter and pleasure seeking. Amusement for amusement’s sake is fleeting, but knowing what we are born to do, is everything. Laughter may be the best medicine, but if we do not follow God’s teaching, we are like the thorns burning away under the pot.
Dearest Lord, you have shared with me the meaning of life. I know that this life will not be easy, but you do share times of laughter with us, and I thank…
Ecclesiastes 7:6 Like the crackling of thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of fools. This too is meaningless.
To me, this chapter on wisdom tells me that all of life is meaningless. I agree that the laughter of fools is meaningless because they are ignorant of their condition. Laughter should be caused by joy and happiness in our lives, but laughter for no reason would be foolish. When I was a child, someone told me that anyone who smiles all the time would be considered crazy, so I became sober.
Dear Lord, help me to understand how this chapter leads to wisdom. It is very depressing. Amen.
Ecclesiastes 7:6 Derisive laughter is one of life’s bitter cruelties. It is learned or experienced first on the playgrounds of our youth and becomes, for some, a weapon in an arsenal of hurtful behavior. Solomon’s image of thorns bursting in a fire, lending no useful warmth is perfect - explosive, but utterly without value. I would think that a mark of true commitment to living a Christian life would be the abandonment of such a nasty habit.
Prayer: Compassionate God, grace me with a measure of your compassion so that I abhor making light of anyone’s difficulty. May my laughter represent the love of a child of God rather than the cruelty of a fool. Amen
