Exodus 31:13
”Say to the Israelites, “You must observe the Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.”
It is not our actions or our choices which make us “holy”, but God. God asked the Israelites to keep the Sabbath, so they would always remember God and their relationship to Him. God leads us on our sanctification journey. We do not choose the way. Pastor Jen talked about listening for God, and listening to God when he speaks to us. God knows the best way for us to travel this path.
Holy Father, help me to hear your voice and to do your will. I will try to listen more carefully and patiently. Amen

Exodus 31: 13 “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.
I read today that the Sabbath Day was a sign pointing back to that first sanctified day when God rested from all His work. This happened before men fell and sin entered the world. Israel’s Sabbath was to remind them of a future sanctified day when God's anointed Messiah would right all wrongs and set up His eternal kingdom on earth. Israel rejected this scripture and the coming Messiah. God called out to the Gentiles and they became His sanctified people.…
Exodus 31:13 Most people, whether they attend church or not, understand the concept of six days of work and the day of Sabbath or rest. And, they often don’t consider going to church rest! What they miss is that this is also a time to remember and be reminded of all that God has done for us. By not remembering this, the generation to generation part of this verse is getting lost. Sadly, I see this in my own family. Prayer: gracious God, help me to be the example for those around me to remember all that God has done and continues to do. Amen
Exodus 31:13
From the beginning, the Sabbath had been important to God. This day had two purposes, it was time to rest and a time to reflect on all that God had done. After God finished creating plants, animals and humans on the earth, He rested then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it and made it holy. He rested from all His work which was created and made. The seventh day is more than just the day after the sixth day of the week. It is a day that was sanctified (set apart) for a special purpose for us. Obviously God did not need to take a break. By resting, God identified the seventh day as His day,…
Exodus 31:13
“In the old days . . .” is rarely a winning way to start a conversation, but given what has happened to the sabbath in this culture it is yet another symptom of our drift from God. While observation of the sabbath does not sanctify, it serves as a sign, a weekly reminder of what and Who it is that sanctifies. We have gone from a culture of closed businesses and, in some places, no liquor sales with over 75% of the population in worship to one where Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby are ridiculed for sabbath day closure, tailgate party drinking and youth sports events start at 10 on Sunday morning, while less than 25% of the population…
