A Daily Devotion for Monday, April 8

Psalm 71:18

Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.

This verse makes me a little uncomfortable if I put myself into the writer’s shoes. He acknowledges his responsibility to pass on his knowledge of God to those who come after him. He asks God to stick with him, even in his old age, so that he can finish well. Could I make this plea to God? Am I doing enough to be able to ask God to let me finish? Maybe on a good day I could be confident enough for this prayer.

Holy Lord, I know that you have given me opportunities to be a mentor. Teaching is not a strength for me, but I hope my life can in some way set a positive example. I will never stop trying my hardest to be the person you would like me to be. Amen
