A Daily Devotion for June 11, Thursday

Matthew 9:35-10:8
verses 9:37-38 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Again, these are verses I have read many times but never noticed or paid attention to the last sentence. “Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Is Jesus instructing his disciples to pray for help and assistance to better serve others? Is Jesus first showing his disciples how great the need, and then reminding them the solution comes from God? Prayer is different than worry or rumination over a problem. Prayer is purposeful and clear. Asking God for help is intentional. This is a new truth for me this morning. Praying for help is not the same as worrying about how much help I need.
God of all creation, You are the source of all my hopes and dreams. You are the source of help and direction. I need to ask for help more, and worry less. I am so grateful and thankful. Amen
