A Daily Devotion for July 23, Thursday

1Timothy 4:4-5

For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

Some things in God’s world are difficult to receive with thanksgiving. Disease, sorrow, loss, loneliness and physical pain are a few. But, even as I write this, I realize good things can come from all of these if we allow it. Can disease or physical pain bring people close to one another? Can loneliness push us out of our safety zone to interact with others? Can recognizing loneliness in another push us out of our complacency to be a companion? Can sorrow bring us closer to God and to others? Seeing the good in all things is an exercise I too often ignore, because it is easier to complain. There are always opportunities to recognize and be part of the ”good”.

Father God, You created the world and everything in it. You know what we are all going through, and the pain that many are forced to live with. Help me to be part of the good that can come from these things. Push me, Lord. Amen
