John 4:13-14
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Jesus has met the Samaritan woman at the well, and at this point she is probably quite confused about what he is saying to her. He has asked for a drink, but then differentiates between this water and the “water” he could provide for her, which would bring her eternal life. He does help her along by eventually telling her who he is, but not before telling her things about herself which he has no natural way of knowing. Water brings the Samaritan woman to salvation, in a symbolic way. This is “living water.”
Holy Lord, Water is so important to your creation, and in this event described in Scripture, it brings Jesus to a Samaritan who will ultimately tell everyone she meets about Him. The water which Jesus provides is “living” water. A drink of water can be a holy thing. May I remember the importance of water, and honor the simplicity of giving water to a stranger in love. Amen

John 4:13-14
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The living water is the gospel of Jesus Christ. A symbol for salvation and a true knowledge of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. God provides us with everything we need and is the living water that continues to always give to us. I wonder when we get clean water from taps in our homes expect to come to know Christ with the same…
John 3:13-14
I always thought of the “living water” as the words of the Bible. Those words that teach us how to live the right life. When Jesus used those words to the Samaritan woman, I felt he was telling her to believe in God, believe in him and her spiritual thirst will be quenched. He knew she needed the spirit because of the way she was living. As she began to understand, her excitement grew and she shared this new spirit with everyone. We should be doing the same thing.
Prayer: Gracious God, help me to live out your living water. Amen
John 4:13-14
There is nothing that refreshes quite as thoroughly than a drink of cold water on a hot and humid day. This may be similar to the feeling experienced when one fully embraces faith in Jesus for the first time. What is different is that the source of Jesus’ living water has been put into our very soul and we can drink of it for the rest of our sojourn in earth. This water is plentiful and is intended for us to share. Observe the Samaritan woman’s actions after her experience at the well. She became a powerful gentile witness for Jesus in her village where she had previously beeen an outcast.
