A Daily Devotion for Friday, March 15

Luke 12:2-3

"There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs."

Jesus is reminding the disciples (in the presence of the Pharisees) that we can't hide our inner thoughts and motives from God. In public, we can say or do whatever we wish to say or do. But that does not change the fact of who we are inside, and what our hearts hold. God knows our motives and our "secrets." This teaching was also meant for the Pharisees, in an attempt to have them see what had happened to them through their attachment to the laws. I think we can all learn from this, and watch for times when we follow the rules instead of doing the right thing. God sees it all. (Foolish love breaks the rules!) There are no secrets from Him.

Holy Lord, give me a pure, clean heart. When I am led by less than pure motives, help me to see, and move away. Shine your light in my heart. Amen

Luke 12:2-3

Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.

This passage is very clear, what is right and what is wrong. Wrong behavior will be recognized and best behavior will be proclaimed.(where my sins and good works are factored in and judged)  What if my mind was a movie screen where everyone could see what I was thinking. Would my thoughts be thoughts I would want anyone else to see. Would I be devastated when Jesus said that everythin…

Luke 12:2-3

As I said yesterday, nothing can be hidden from God. In today’s world, we should realize that we cannot keep “secrets” from coming to light at any point. Jesus wanted to remind d the disciples about the fact that God knows all things. My mother’s way to teaching me that lesson was to tell me to be sure “I didn't do anything I wouldn’t want printed in the headlines of the newspaper. Believe me, as a teenager, I thought about that a lot. I do believe it influenced my behavior.

Prayer: Gracious God, Thank you for such wise parents who cared so much for me. Amen

Luke 12:2-3

We never know how what we have tried to hide will be disclosed or what we have said, proclaimed. Public persons are more and more frequently pilloried for statements made or actions taken that have been preserved on the internet for up to decades. Job seekers have been denied because of some random Facebook quotation or image from years ago. Whether or not this is “fair,” it is a tangible demonstration of Jesus’ admonition. Discipline, integrity and striving to live according to God’s precepts can go a long way in protecting us from this kind of humiliation.

Prayer - Lord, I wonder if my life was an open book, would I have any friends? Would I be considered…
