Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
It is easy to be grumpy about the work we need to do each day. I know it is easy for me to find things to complain about. When I do complain, I am forgetting this message from Colossians. It is for God that I work, and it is because of God’s grace I am here at all! By God’s grace I have a family, a home and a livelihood. My hard work is one of the ways I can say “thank-you” to God.
Holy Father, you have set me in this place, at this time, in this community. I am so thankful. I will show my thanks by working hard, and not taking for granted all of your gifts. Amen

Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
God wants us to be a blessing for Jesus and a blessing on earth. When doing something for other people I should be remembering that I am also doing something for Jesus. whether it is giving a smile, doing the dishes for someone, or giving money to someone who I know needs it. At the same time I am doing it for Jesus. This brings a whole new extent to what I do, and I no longer have a need to receive honor o…

Any type of work we do can be done with an open heart and a goal of pleasing God. Our belief in Jesus transforms my heart. I am to work, talk and serve with love, mercy and grace. As a servant of Christ, I should care for all and do my best to help when needed. I should serve with a generous heart and be willing to work to make the world around me better.

Colossians 3:23-24 Do I have the patience to wait for my inheritance from the Lord? Am I more apt to act the prodigal, demand my inheritance now and go waste what I’m given on selfish, hedonistic pursuits? I refer once again to Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection, the monk who cheerfully served in the kitchen of his monastery for many years then equally cheerfully made sandals for the brothers when he could no longer stand upright the long hours necessary to tend to kitchen duties. I am considering taking his classic, “The Practice of the Pursuit of God” on my Camino pilgrimage to more fully understand serving Christ by whatever I do.
