A Daily Devotion for Friday, August 28
Romans 5:12-17
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned —
To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
God’s gift is really amazing, when described in this way. The devotion mentions taking the service of communion for granted. I know that for some, this would never happen. But for me, it has at times in my life become more routine. I have thought before about doing a study of some kind on the sacrament of communion. This would be helpful to me. Being brought back to the full meaning and importance of this service would be awesome. I am thankful for this reminder today.
Holy Lord, I am so thankful for your forgiveness- May I never, ever, take it for granted. I am loved, not forgotten or left behind, and I will honor and love you by remembering your sacrifice for me. Amen

Romans 5:12-27
Communion is such a special ritual for all of us. I’ve been looking at some special ways to do communion. I know that often something we do on a regular basis begins to lose its uniqueness. I have found some methods that involve some participants doing or saying things using a script that makes us all an important part of communion. I am sure some others would hate to see any changes to something they find very special. I would love to incorporate some new things on World Wide Communion Sunday.
Prayer: Gracious God, help me bring the ritual of communion alive. AMEN

Romans 5:12-17
This is like when a child breaks a favorite toy by misusing it and knows he made a bad choice, but there is someone who loves them (a parent, grandparent, an aunt or uncle, etc.) who helps, who says “I’ll fix that for you”. The relief and gratitude can be seen on the face of this child. Adam sinned and death entered, Jesus offered Grace and life comes. Jesus’s gift is greater than Adam’s sin - how exciting is that?! You can see the relief and gratitude on my face.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me and for sending Jesus to save me. I know I make wrong choices. I know I sin. Thank You for forgivin…
