A Daily Devotion for Friday, August 26

Acts 2:38

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

This verse records Peter passing on what Jesus had told him to pass on to others: repenting and accepting Jesus leads to the gift of the Holy Spirit. The next verse is especially precious to me (and I failed to include it somehow!). It reads, “The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off- for all whom the Lord our God will call.” This reassurance is important to me. I have struggled with this in the past, wondering if Jesus meant for his promises to be enjoyed at that time, and with those select few. But the more I learn from scripture, I learn how organized and complete the plan was. God wants everyone to know him, to believe in him, to seek and follow him. No exceptions.

Holy Lord, thank you for your Holy Spirit. I am included. Amen

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Yesterday Paul reminded us of how the Holy Spirit can work. Today we hear Peter spreading that news as he begins his ministry. These verses should remind us of the importance of the Holy Spirit and what it can do for us. I will admit there was a time when the Holy Spirit was just words for me. Now I know what a friend I have in the Holy Spirit. As other readings have suggested – the Holy Spirit offers us…

Acts 2:38

Peter had been charged by Jesus to build the church and once he received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, he gave the rest of his life to the task. I try to imagine the genuine authority with which he spoke to the people, having walked with Jesus in the flesh for nearly three years and personally experienced the whirlwind of Jesus’ resurrection and ascension. Once empowered, he was an unstoppable force for the kingdom. This confidence and power to live for Christ may be ours as well as we repent and receive.

Prayer - Spirit of power and truth, fill the empty places in my spiritual life to fuel my efforts to show others that Jesus is the…

Acts 2:38

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

This verse could not be more clear to understand. Peter tells us, we will receive the Holy Spirit by simply receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior. however we must repent, trust Christ, and realize that the power of the Holy Spirit becomes our permanent possession the moment we believe. Through regular prayer and study of the Bible, the Spirit helps us grow in understanding of God’s plan and our part in it. It seals God’s laws on our hearts and mi…

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus died for our sins. It is through his death that we are freed. The Holy Spirit keeps me on track to not fall too far if I sin and to always repent if I have. What a great gift God gave to us in allowing his Son to be crucified.

Dearest Lord, thank you for all you have given me. The new understanding I find every day when reading and sharing these verses. You gave us so very much when you allowed Jesus to die…
