The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Prayer based on the following Scriptural passages:
I Samuel 17: (1a, 4-11, 19-23) 32-49
Psalm 9:9-20
2 Cor 6:1-13
Mark 4:35-41
We praise you, O God
for your great love and power —
for standing with David, who
though young and small,
courageously confronted
a force much bigger
than himself to defeat
forces that sought to do harm.
We praise you, O God
for delivering your people
in times of trouble, for
never forgetting the cry
of the afflicted, for being
present to those who suffer.
We praise you, O God,
for Jesus, who when his
disciples were overtaken
by fear and terror, quelled
the storm that raged
around them and within,
and blessed them with the
gift of peace.
We praise you, O God,
for Paul and his companions
who suffered dishonor, beatings,
imprisonment, and every
manner of hardship, and yet
remained faithful in genuine love,
and rejoiced in owning nothing
and possessing everything
as your servants.
O God whose love is everlasting,
who calls us to serve in hard times
and in hard places, to endure
through storms and suffering —
deepen our roots us in your Word,
strengthen us to resist what is evil,
and to do what is good and true,
that we may be steadfast in
the work of love.
In the name of Christ Jesus,
who lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, now and forever.
Amen.
