A Daily Devotion for Monday, Feb.8

Matthew 9:9-13

verse 13b: “For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Jesus chose Matthew and his friends. He shared a meal and fellowship with them. Matthew became a disciple. Could Jesus have chose others to spend time with?
 

I love the idea of looking at this passage as an example of healing. Matthew was a tax collector, thought of as evil. Jesus uses his relationships to illustrate a bigger picture. No matter what we have done, or who we are, Jesus wants us. Even when I fail over and over to be “good” or “worthy”, God makes it clear he wants me to follow him. Not a new idea, but a vitally important one. I am healed.
 

Father God, you are the healer of everything. You have chosen us to follow you on earth and for eternity. Amen
